Two-DVD Set Includes Event and Workshops

The moment when it became clear that the lindy hop revival was here to stay was in May, 1994 when dancers from all over the world converged on New York City to celebrate Frankie Manning's 80th Birthday.

The video that captured this remarkable event, called Can't Top the Lindy Hop, is being re-released in a limited edition two-DVD set.

The Event video is about 100 minutes long. It includes performances, video of the evening dances, Frankie’s birthday celebration, including his birthday dance, Frankie leading the entire ballroom in the Shim Sham, and a great jam circle that closed the event.

The Event disc also has the short Birthday Present video made as a surprise for Frankie and shown the evening of his birthday celebration. The video was the first of its kind: people from many different countries dancing to Frankie's favorite tune, Shiny Stockings. Frankie never stopped talking about the surprise of the birthday present video and showed it wherever he traveled.

The Workshop video, about 60 minutes, is an absolute goldmine of traditional Lindy Hop steps and routines demonstrated by the group of master teachers assembled for the celebration. The list of teachers remains to this day a who's who of the greatest lindy hoppers of the revival. Each teacher does a clear presentation and demonstration of the routine they taught in their workshop classes. A high point is Ryan Francois teaching his famous Jitterbug Stroll.
